By Greensboro Swarm Staff /August 24, 2016
August 24, 2016 – The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, has selected the rights to 12 players in the 2016 NBA D-League Expansion Draft. The players selected in today’s Expansion Draft will make up the Swarm’s Returning Player List in advance of the team’s inaugural season.
The Swarm will hold these players’ Returning Rights for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 NBA D-League seasons. Should one of the 12 players selected today decide to sign a contract with the D-League this year, the Swarm will have first priority to claim the player for the team’s training camp roster.
As part of the draft process, each of the 19 other 2015-16 NBA D-League teams were able to protect the rights of up to 10 players. The Swarm and the two other 2016 D-League expansion teams, the Long Island Nets and Windy City Bulls, were then able to select from the pool of unprotected players on NBA D-League rosters. No more than two selections could be made from any one of the 19 established D-League teams.
