Opening Night Slated For Saturday, November 12 In Greensboro
August 22, 2016 – The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today announced the schedule for the team’s inaugural season. The Swarm will tip off the 2016-17 season at home on Saturday, November 12 in the newly renovated Greensboro Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the D-League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers. The 50-game schedule consists of 24 home games, 24 away games and two games that will be played at the League’s 13th annual NBA D-League Showcase in January.
“We are incredibly excited to announce our schedule for the upcoming season and open the Swarm’s inaugural year in front of our home crowd here in Greensboro,” said Swarm President Steve Swetoha. “Since the launch of our team last October, we continue to receive great fan support from the surrounding community. We look forward to beginning a new, proud basketball tradition this fall.”
In addition to opening night, the Swarm’s schedule is highlighted by 15 home games also played on either a Friday or Saturday. Other marquee dates at home include an afternoon matchup the day after Christmas and three Thursday night games. The most home appearances come in March with eight games total while December features six and February includes five. With the exception of two afternoon games that will start at 2 p.m., all of the Swarm’s home matchups will tip off at 7 p.m. this season.
The team is on the road the majority of January, playing seven out of eight games at opposing venues and another two contests at the neutral Showcase site. The team has two long road trips in the schedule, a five-game trip from December 28 through January 12 and then a six-game stretch from January 15 to January 30. In its first year, the team plays 11 sets of back-to-backs, three of which both games are at home.
The Swarm will compete in the D-League’s Eastern Conference as a member of the Atlantic Division, joining the Delaware 87ers, Erie BayHawks, Long Island Nets, Maine Red Claws and Westchester Knicks. Of its 50 games, 40 will be played against the ten other teams in the Eastern Conference while the remaining ten games are against Western Conference opponents. In addition to the Greensboro Swarm, the Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets) and Windy City Bulls (Chicago Bulls) join the D-League for the 2016-17 season as it expands to 22 teams.
Currently, the only way for fans to guarantee seats for the home opener and other Swarm games throughout the year is to purchase season tickets. Tickets start as low as $7 per ticket per game. Courtside seats, which are selling fast, start at just $50 per ticket per game. Single-game tickets will go on sale at a later date.
