The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today announced that the team completed a trade with the Stockton Kings (Sacramento Kings affiliate). The Swarm acquired the returning player rights to Daniel Ochefu and the Kings’ first-round selection in the 2020 NBA G League Draft in exchange for Robert Franks.
Ochefu, 26, is currently playing overseas with the Ibaraki Robots in Japan. The former Villanova University standout spent the 2018-19 season in Stockton and averaged 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds in 24 minutes over 39 games (31 starts). The 2017-18 season saw the forward play for Maine, Windy City and Reno/Stockton in the G League.
Undrafted in 2016, the Baltimore native signed with the Washington Wizards for the 2016-17 season where he appeared in 19 games. A four-year player at Villanova, Ochefu was a member of the 2016 National Championship team that defeated the University of North Carolina for the title.
Franks appeared in 22 games for the Swarm this season, averaging 18.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 32 minutes per game. Undrafted in 2019, Franks played for the Charlotte Hornets at the NBA Summer League and preseason. He signed a two-way contract with the organization on July 9, 2019 but was waived on January 15, 2020.
The trade is not subject to either player passing a physical.
