By Greensboro Swarm Staff /February 20, 2020

The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that the team’s theme jersey on Saturday, February 29, will highlight Junior Achievement of the Triad on behalf of Allegacy Federal Credit Union. The funds raised from the silent auction at the game will benefit the local nonprofit’s purpose of inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.

“For four seasons now, Allegacy Federal Credit Union has worked with the Swarm to raise awareness and funding for a nonprofit,” Greensboro Swarm President Steve Swetoha said. “This season we are delighted to support Junior Achievement of the Triad and their efforts to help prepare today’s students for a better future. We are fortunate to team up with Allegacy for this special theme night.”

The theme jersey reflects Junior Achievement’s commitment to igniting the spark in young people to experience and realize the opportunities and realities of work and life in the 21st century. The green jersey features the JA logo throughout with #ICAN prominently placed on the sides. Fans in attendance can purchase the jerseys for members of the Greensboro Swarm in a silent auction during the game, with winners recognized in a special postgame presentation.

“We are honored to highlight and support the incredible work that Junior Achievement of the Triad is doing to educate and empower young people with career and financial education to own their own economic success,” said Cathy Pace, Allegacy President and CEO. “We value the relationships we have with community groups that share our same values of doing right and helping others be their best.”

Junior Achievement reached over 24,000 students in 2018-19 across nearly 1,200 classes in over 100 local schools with the help of more than 800 volunteers. A volunteer-driven organization, JA works with kindergarten through grade 12 with programs to foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

“We are fortunate to have dedicated organizations like Allegacy and the Greensboro Swarm in the Triad,” said Jacqueline McCracken Wall, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of the Triad. “Their commitment to improving the lives of individuals and the community at large is what makes the Triad a great place to live, work and play. Junior Achievement is honored to be the beneficiary of the Theme Jersey Night. As a result of this collaboration, Triad children will know how money, careers and business ownership works, equipping them with the confidence to navigate their futures.”

Nearly $10,000 has been raised through three theme jersey nights with Allegacy. Previous nonprofits supported include Susan G. Komen, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and BackPack Beginnings.

The Swarm take on the College Park Skyhawks (Atlanta Hawks affiliate) in the theme jersey game. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
