The Greensboro Swarm, G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that Greensboro Swarm Head Coach Jordan Surenkamp will return in his role for the 2023-24 G League season and Cole Teal will take on the role of general manager.

Surenkamp enters his 3rd season as head coach for the Swarm after serving three seasons with the Hornets, including two as the team’s head video coordinator. Before joining the Hornets, Surenkamp began his career in professional basketball with the Brooklyn Nets (2017-18), including serving as head video coordinator for their G League affiliate. Multiple Hornets roster players and two-way players have played under Surenkamp’s leadership in Greensboro, including James Bouknight, Kai Jones, JT Thor, Mark Williams, Bryce McGowens and Theo Maledon. Additionally, three Swarm roster players (Cam McGriff, Xavier Sneed, and Kobi Simmons) have received NBA call-ups during his tenure.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be back as head coach of the Swarm. I’m ready to continue working with an organization and coaching staff that prioritizes player development and growth of its young players,” said Surenkamp. “Being a head coach, especially in the G League, is a dream job and I look forward to getting to work this season.”

Cole Teal enters his third year with the Swarm and first year as general manager. Last season Teal served as manager of basketball operations and player development. Teal has also worked for G League teams: Delaware Blue Coats and Windy City Bulls as a basketball operations associate. Cole replaces the Swarm’s previous general manager, Cam Twiss, who has transitioned into his role as pro scout for the Charlotte Hornets.

“I’m honored to be taking on the role of general manager of the Greensboro Swarm. I am excited to work alongside the Hornets front office and work every day to help our team improve,” said Teal. “Development is our number one goal this season, and I’m eager to see what we all can accomplish alongside an excellent staff and exciting group of young players.”

The Swarm will be entering their eighth season in Greensboro and the team will release their 2023-24 Season Schedule in the coming weeks.
