The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, has partnered with Novant Health to introduce a new health and wellness school assembly program, Time Out for Fitness. In conjunction of the NBA’s FIT initiative, which encourages people of all ages to lead healthy and active lifestyles, the unique program is designed to creatively focus on good nutrition and exercise with elementary school students in the Piedmont Triad area.
“Time Out for Fitness is an important step in our social responsibility and commitment to provide a positive and healthy way for children in our region to understand the importance of staying fit,” Greensboro Swarm President Steve Swetoha said. “Our ability to align our program with Novant Health makes perfect sense and we appreciate their expertise and support on this endeavor.”
The Time Out for Fitness program will launch on Friday, January 26, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School. The 30-minute program will feature eating healthy tips, fun exercises and student competitions on how to be fit and healthy. Representatives from the Greensboro Swarm staff will take part in the program, including team mascot Sergeant Swarm and members of the Buzz Brigade.
The launch of the entertaining and high energy presentation aligns with Novant Health’s encouragement of healthy eating and activities. Through physical activity and healthy lifestyle efforts, the program will serve as a fun approach for youth to get fit so they can excel at home and in the classroom.
“Time Out for Fitness is a fun, engaging way to support healthy habits for young people across the Triad,” said Laura Holby, manager of corporate social responsibility for Novant Health. “We’re proud to partner with the Greensboro Swarm to help build a culture of wellness in our community.”
NBA Cares is the league’s global and social responsibility program the builds on the NBA’s mission of addressing important social issues. NBA FIT promotes the key pillars of “Be active, Eat Healthy and Play Together,” throughout the year. The unveiling of Time Out for Fitness falls within the NBA’s FIT Week, where all teams engage players, partners and communities on important health information.
Future locations and dates for the Time Out for Fitness program will be unveiled on a later date.
