The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, announced today that the team’s 569 three-point field goals made during the 2021-22 NBA G League season raised $1,707 for Guilford Child Development (GCD). The 2021-22 season marked the fourth year of the #PNC3Pointer campaign, with PNC Bank contributing $3 to the local nonprofit for each three-pointer made by a Swarm player at home games.
“We are fortunate to have a great partner like PNC who is committed to working together in the community and supporting local nonprofits like Guilford Child Development,” said Swarm President Steve Swetoha. “We are glad to have the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the important work that GCD does for our local children and their families, especially in recent years.”
The donation was generated during the team’s 24 home games at the Fieldhouse during the season, which included the Showcase Cup and regular season portions of the schedule. Rolling updates on funds raised throughout the season were featured on the Swarm’s digital platforms with the hashtag #PNC3Pointer.
“PNC and the Greensboro Swarm share a commitment to education and care for the community,” said Weston Andress, PNC regional president for Western Carolinas. “We appreciate the team for using its platform to help bring visibility to the importance of high-quality early childhood education, and we recognize the major impact Guilford Child Development is making in the lives of local children and their families.”
GCD was selected as the recipient of the donation because of its excellence in supporting early childhood education in the Triad. In addition to the contribution, PNC Bank and the Swarm honored Kesha Coleman, a GCD educator, as the PNC Teacher Hero of the Year during the March 29 game.
“With all that has changed since the start of the pandemic, we are deeply appreciative of the support and generosity shown by PNC Bank and the Greensboro Swarm,” said GCD President and Chief Executive Officer Maria Layne-Stevens. “Despite not being able to get out into the community as they have in the past, they still found a way to give back and support our organization by improving the lives of children and families still grappling with the challenge brought on by the pandemic.”
Founded in 1967, GCD addresses the educational, health and social needs of the county’s most vulnerable children and families, removing barriers and providing resources to promote family self-sufficiency and positive school outcomes.
Through four #PNC3Pointer campaigns, PNC has donated over $5,200 to the nonprofit, which serves thousands of children and families in Guilford County each year.
