Swarm To Donate Portion Of Ticket Proceeds To Greensboro Police Foundation In Memory Of Fallen Officer

By Greensboro Swarm Staff /November 13, 2018

The Greensboro Swarm today announced the team will donate a portion of the proceeds from tickets purchased this week for the Saturday, November 17, game against the Lakeland Magic to the Greensboro Police Foundation in memory of GPD Officer Jared William Franks, who passed away on November 10.

Additionally, Swarm fans can donate to the Greensboro Police Foundation by texting ‘SwarmForGPD’ to 41444 throughout the week.

The Greensboro Police Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to supplement funding for innovative police programs, equipment and technology that make Greensboro a safer community to live, work and visit. Contributions will benefit the department’s programs for equipment, training and technology; officer safety, wellness and recognition; and community partnerships and advocacy.

The Swarm will also remember Officer Franks with a moment of silence prior to Saturday’s game, which was already scheduled to include recognition of first responders as local heroes as part of the activation around the “Super Hero Night” theme.

Officer Franks, who joined the GPD in June 2016 and was assigned to the District Two Patrol Division, succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision while investigating a possible robbery. He is the first GPD officer to die in the line of duty in 17 years.
